Chia Pudding: How to Guide to an Easy Breakfast

 

Chia Pudding: The power packed, portable breakfast that you can make in advance; plays nice with fresh fruit. 

Breakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but it’s also the most skipped. We’ve all pushed snooze a few too many times or maybe your kids just refused to cooperate and now you’re running late. Who has the time to make a well balanced meal every morning?

Cha-Cha-Cha-CHIA, the superfood that’s waking up your tired breakfast routine!

It turns out that this wondrous seed that caught our attention in the early 90s for it’s ability to transform a regular ol’ terra cotta Tweety Bird head into a luscious planter, also has the ability to transform our health, energy, and brainpower.

Chia pudding is one of my all-time favorite breakfasts because it takes two minutes to throw together. In no time, you can have a filling and satisfying breakfast that is ideal for those warm, sticky summer mornings. The greatest things about chia pudding is the versatility of the dish. You can adapt this pudding to fit any season, from warm apples and cinnamon for the fall, to chai spiced sweet potatoes and coconut cream for winter, the options are really limitless.


But first, a health lesson. Omega-3 fatty acids, protein, fiber and antioxidants are all packed into each tiny seed. As a good source of plant based protein, each tablespoon of dry Chia contains 3g of protein and only 60 calories! Omega-3’s are shown to reduce inflammation (the cause of many diseases), protect against alzheimer's and dementia, improve mood, and memory.

How to: Because Chia seeds absorb 9 times their weight in water, when you combine dried seeds with any liquid it forms this awesome creamy like texture, similar to tapioca pudding. Just combine 2 tablespoons of chia with ½ cup of your favorite nut milk (coconut, almond, hemp, etc.) in a glass jar, cover and shake vigorously. Refrigerate overnight. In the morning, top with your favorite fresh berries, or granola and enjoy. Don't be afraid to add in your favorite plant based protein too, we love ALOHA Vanilla.
