Whether you're a resolution hater or a goal setting dreamer, there is one thing you need to do before you start 2016, give yourself a personal review.
Take a look at the best of you in 2015, like cleaning the kitchen before you cook a big dinner, or taking a few deep breaths before your yoga class, doing this simple act, gives you peace of mind and an opportunity for a little self love, something we all could take some lessons on this year.
Identify the good and the bad and then leave whatever you want in the past and bring only the things that truly add value to your life with you into 2016.
So, before you write down your goals and resolutions of 2016, take a moment to pause and reflect on the success and failures of 2015.
Here are some questions to help you get your juices flowing:
- What are the 5 things you're most proud of from the past 12 months?
- What are the 5 things that you struggled with most?
- What did you learn from all of those experiences?
- If you were to go month-by-month and reflect on everything you did, how would that make you feel?
There are an infinite number of philosophies and concepts that I've learned in the yoga studio and have transferred into and transformed my professional life, but rarely do I see the opportunity to bring my professional life into my teaching, except for this simple five minute practice.
Gather your family or close friends, and do this as a group, you'll be amazed at the things you have all accomplished this past year, and you'll be reminded of the tiny things that you did that impacted someone else more than you could've ever imagined.
While this is great to do at the end of the year, integrating this into your monthly or even quarterly rotation could be huge for your progress this year. Once you have a grasp on just how amazing and strong you were over the past twelve months, you'll be able to better create attainable, impactful goals for the future.
Enter into 2016 with love. Be kind to yourself, be real with yourself and give yourself some wiggle room, because we're just here to make friends, get messy and have some fun! Happy New Year!!!
