RECIPE QUESTIONS

I'm gluten free, will Voeden recipes work for me?

Yes! Again, you may need to modify some. For example, our pizza dough contains gluten. However, you can make our garbanzo bean flatbread instead, or purchase a gluten free pizza crust from the store. All the grains we use are gluten free, and we recommend gluten free soba noodles or quinoa pasta for all our noodle dishes.

Please note that you are ultimately responsible for ensuring your diet is gluten free.

What if I'm not vegetarian?

Great!  We're not either, we just don't eat much meat. Most recipes can be modified to include animal protein. We give recommendations on how.

How long will the recipes take to make?

The amount of time it takes to make a recipe varies from person to person. It depends on how comfortable you are in the kitchen, and how fast or slow you like to work. However, we try to keep the cook time around 30 minutes. Our staple recipes should always be a half hour or less to prepare. We know that sometimes cooking can be therapeutic and relaxing, but other times you just need to get food on the table.

Will my kids like the recipes?

Yes! It just might take some patience and persistence on your part, but you may be surprised by how your kids take to these new, colorful, fun meals.  Be sure to read our picky eater's guide, and here are a few more tips to keep in mind:

  • Involve your kids in the process of shopping and preparing the meals. When your kids are contributing and invested, they will be proud of their work and more likely to partake in the meal.
  • Don't be afraid to modify. If you or your child really doesn't like eggplant, use zucchini, broccoli, peppers or whatever vegetable you do all like.
  • Sit down and eat together. Let your kids watch and learn. You may be surprised at what happens.

What if I don't like a recipe? Can I swap it out?

Yes! If a recipe does not look good to you, you can use any of the past recipes on our site, or one of your own! The list we provide only includes the 5 meals that we plan for the week, so you will need  to make the necessary changes to your list. And now we have an iOS APP which allows you to customize your weekly meal plan anytime, anywhere! Take a recipe out of the plan, or add other recipes in, and your grocery list will automatically update!

General Questions

Why should I choose Voeden, and not one of the other meal plan subscription services out there?

This is my favorite question!  And my answer might surprise you - maybe you shouldn't choose voeden!  Look, there are other really great meal plan services out there, and they are not like Voeden.  Voeden is focused on seasonal, veggie loaded eating - and it's more than just a meal plan.

You should choose Voeden if you want more than just 5 recipes and a grocery list.

Voeden is for people who want to live a more meaningful life. Who care about the earth, and believe that the choices they make - like where and when they buy their food - matter. Voeden meal plans are for people who want to eat meals that align and connect them with the seasons, and that nourish not just their body, but their mind, relationships, and soul.

What if I'm not in the mood for the meal on the plan?

Totally get this. Who wants to be told to eat salad when they are jonesing for a hot bowl of soup?  Or what if some night you're feeling spaced out and your body needs meat?

  • When you eat in season (which we guide you to do), you won't be eating a cold salad in the winter when your body needs warm, grounding foods. Cold salads are not in season then (unless you are smart and live someplace warm).
  • The recipes are a guide or a framework, not a rule. Add local/organic meat to your meal if you need it (we tell you how).  Swap out veggies, grains, and beans to suit your fancy.
  • You do not have to follow the order of the meal plan. Don't feel like pancakes tonight? Make tomorrows Tacos instead.

And again, the iOS app allows you to customize your meal plan each week - very easily!

What if my family and friends don't support me?

Here’s what you tell them, I’ve decided to start eating real food that makes me feel awesome.  Will you support me in this? And they will say “Yes! I’m so happy for you, and I can see the difference, tell me more!”

Will this be expensive?

Take an honest look at how much you spend on eating out, coffee and lattes, and other random crap you really don’t need.  Can you redirect those resources? And ask yourself, is food, the very thing that goes into my body and becomes part of my cells and determines my health, the thing I want to buy cheap and low quality?  You deserve better.

Will this really save me time or will it be a lot of work?

Yes, you still have to shop a little, and cook each meal.  We're not coming to your house with the groceries and making dinner for you. There are services out there that will do that, and if that is what you are looking for, Voeden is NOT for you.

Let me ask you this, would you rather put a little effort in, and not feel stress and frustration over what to have for dinner each night?  Or do you want to be lazy, and continue to feel lost, confused, and time-starved.

Here’s the deal, you have to put a little effort in. We literally do all the hard work for you - all the thinking through, planning, and testing.  All you have to do is stock your pantry in the beginning, then buy the ingredients on the grocery list we give you. At night, you will spend 30-45 minutes cooking (make someone else clean up, it's only fair), and that's it!

I guarantee you will have more time AND more mental space.  But if you don't, let us know what’s happening and we will help you out, and/or give you your money back.

What if I like cooking and coming up with my own recipes.

That's great! You might still find voeden helpful.  The recipes can either be followed to the T, or they can be used as a roadmap.  You can tweak and change these recipes easily, and put your own spin on them.

Swap out the veggies or grains, add meat, whip up a different dressing or sauce.  You can make these your own, and still enjoy the convenience of having a plan and list to save you time and provide the framework for creating unique, delicious meals.
